Johnson Paul Vere Johnson (born June 24, 1954) has been a general authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) since 2005, and was the church's sixteenth Commissioner of Church Education from 2008 to 2015. Johnson was born in Gainesville, Florida, and was raised in Logan, Utah. As a young man, he was an LDS Church missionary in Norway, after which he earned degrees from Brigham Young University and Utah State University.〔 He has served in the LDS Church as a ward Young Men president, bishop, and counselor in a stake presidency. He and his wife, Jill, married in 1976 and are the parents of nine children. Johnson became a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy on April 2, 2005 after serving as an area seventy in the Fifth Quorum of the Seventy since June 2003. On June 8, 2008, the church's First Presidency announced that Johnson would succeed W. Rolfe Kerr as the Commissioner of Church Education, effective August 1, 2008. He served in this capacity until August 1, 2015, when he was succeeded by Kim B.
